94 points : SANCERRE BLANC 2021

Clément & Florian Berthier

“The 2021 Sancerre is super clear, precise, fresh and mineral on the rather coolish and classic picture-book nose that is pure and saline yet intense and reveals blackcurrant as well as flinty aromas. […]”

92 points : SANCERRE BLANC 2020

Clément & Florian Berthier

“Berthier’s 2020 Sancerre is clear and intensely mineral on the fresh and spicy, iodine and phenolic nose that is much more discreet in its fruit expression than the corresponding Pouilly-Fumé. […]”

93 points : TERRE DE SILEX 2020

92 points : Sancerre La Croix Renaud 2015

Clément & Florian Berthier

With its year in oak, this wine has richness and layers of ripe, mature fruits. Tannins give backbone to the ripe spice, taut acidity and minerality that support the weight of the smoky stewed black currants and berries.

91 points : Sancerre Rosé 2018

Domaine des Clairneaux

Deep vivid orange-pink. Potent red berry, orange pith and floral scents are sharpened by hints of dusty minerals and white pepper. Chewy and broad on the palate, offering bitter red currant cherry and blood orange flavors that steadily tighten up on the back half. Finishes long and spicy, with repeating red fruit character and a touch of candied rose.

89 points : Vin de France Pinot Noir Rosé 2018

L’Instant

Brilliant pink. Fresh red berries, candied orange peel and a subtle floral quality on the fragrant nose. Dry and tightly wound, offering light bodiedred currant and strawberry flavors that show a refreshing touch of back end bitterness. Closes tangy and taut, with repeating citrus character and good persistence.

90 points : Coteaux du Giennois Rosé 2018

Domaine de Montbenoit

Light brilliant orange. Fragrant, mineral accented red berry and pit fruit aromas are complemented by suggestions of honeysuckle and dusty minerals. Shows good focus and energy in the mouth, offering juicy

strawberry, nectarine and flooral pastille flavors that open up slowly on the back half. The floral note repeats on a long, focused finish that leaves a subtly sweet red berry note behind.

17/20 : Terre de Silex 2017 Coteaux du Giennois Blanc

Clément & Florian Berthier

From very specific soils around the town of St-Père. The vines are planted in clay soil with an unusual concentration of flint (silex) from the Cretaceous period.

Pungent and very mineral on the nose. Pure and resonant – really grabs the inside of the mouth. Very textured with lots of green fruit flavours. Not quite ready although the fruit is fairly opulent.

92 POINTS : GIENNOIS BLANC 2021

Clément & Florian Berthier

“The 2021 Coteaux du Giennois Sauvignon Blanc opens with a clear, fresh and aromatic bouquet of domestic and tropical fruit aromas such as gooseberries, kiwis and passion fruit seeds intermingled with the aromas of wet gravel and flint stones. […]”

92 POINTS : GIENNOIS BLANC 2020

Clément & Florian Berthier

“The 2020 Coteaux du Giennois Sauvignon Blanc shows a deep, intense and elegant yet warmer and less refreshing nose compared to the 2021. […]”

93 POINTS : TERRE DE CAILLOTTE 2020

Clément & Florian Berthier

“The 2020 Coteaux du Giennois Terre de Caillotte shows a bit of the precision and coolishness of the 2021 vintage on the dense, intense, iodine-scented and very elegant nose that integrates lemon juice and gravel aromas. […]”

17/20 Terre de Caillotte 2017 Coteaux du Giennois Blanc

Clément & Florian Berthier

From soils in Pougny with a particular concentration of small limestone pebbles, known in the region as caillottes.

More muted and somehow ‘drier’ than the Terre de Silex on the nose though still very mouth-filling on the palate. Really very well made indeed. Classic rather than new wave but very pure and expressive. Long and satisfying.

16/20 Sancerre Blanc 2018 Domaine des Clairneaux

Vignobles Berthier

From the Berthier family, this carries the name Jean-Marie Berthier on the label. From Ste-Gemme and Sury-en-Vaux, small villages located in the heart of the Centre-Loire area, half from silex and half from limestone.

Much lighter and milder than the Vignobles Berthier’s Giennois wines! Just a little skinny. Perfectly fine and smoky but without the fruity core of their Terres de… Giennois bottlings.

In Vino Veritas

93 POINTS : POUILLY FUME 2021

Clément & Florian Berthier

“The 2021 Pouilly-Fumé opens with a pure and airy bouquet of bright fruits and delicate flint stone aromas. Not as deep and intense as the 2021 Sancerre, but it’s beautiful as well. […]”

93 POINTS : POUILLY FUME 2020

Clément & Florian Berthier

“The Berthier 2020 Pouilly Fumé is clear, fresh and iodine-scented like an oyster with lemon, lime and kiwi aromas as well as some flinty nuances in the backgroung. […]”

90 POINTS : TERRE DE MARNE 2020

Clément & Florian Berthier

“The 2020 Coteaux du Giennois Terre de Marne is the fruitiest and most aromatic of the parcellaires trio from this appellation in the Sancerrois. However, the generous fruit is bright and clear, eventually intertwined with some lactic and leathery or stable nuances. […]”

90 points : L’Inédit 2015 Coteaux du Giennois Pinot Noir

Clément & Florian Berthier

One of a range of single-parcel wines from this producer, this is light and fruity. A hint of tannins gives it shape but with its four years aging and ripe cherry flavors.

92 points : Terre de Silex 2017 Coteaux du Giennois Blanc

Clément & Florian Berthier

Part of the range called Les Parcellaires, this wine celebrates the flint soil often found in the central Loire vineyards. It gives a mineral character to the wine that balances with the ripe apple and spice flavors to give a juicy, lightly structured aftertaste.

91 points : Terre de Marne 2017  Coteaux du Giennois Blanc

Clément & Florian Berthier

This wine is all about fruit. Its bright texture and acidity are part of the crisp lemon, green-plum and apple flavors that overflow from the glass. To support this, the wine has a mineral edge that will allow it to age longer.
